Like a lot of people, the new year is when I look back on my life to see what I’ve done and look forward to my future to see what I plan to do next. The new year symbolizes a refresh. One of the best ways to psychologically refresh yourself is to update your fragrance wardrobe with new scents to make you feel as new as the year. These are some fragrances that I recommend updating your 2025 fragrance wardrobe with.

Rose Exposed by Tom Ford

Any time I hear Tom Ford is releasing a rose forward fragrance, I’m interested. Rose is a note Tom Ford has always shined at and here Tom Ford leans towards complexities that make for a call back towards Tom Ford run by Tom Ford. Since the man stepped down, some were concerned the house would lean into the mainstream and avoid complexities, but Rose Exposed is proof the house is still thriving on the foundations that built the name. Here rose pops with white pepper while laying over a textured leather. It’s tantalizing and expressive while maintaining its cool.

Phoenix Flame by Mabelle O’Rama

Phoenix Flame has been living rent free in my head since I smelled it upon its release in late 2024. The new fragrance from Mabelle O’Rama has two notes that are the absolute star and work so well together it’s surprising it’s never been done before. Sumac and oud. Sumac is a tangy spice common in Persian culture, so I’m not only very familiar with it, I love it. It’s also common in Lebanese culture, of which is the background of perfumer Mabelle of Mabelle O’Rama. Its role in Phoenix Flame provides a distinct kick that cannot be ignored. Then there’s the oud. I’m admittedly not the biggest fan of oud, but here people like myself and oud lovers can unite and appreciate its use. The oud here envelopes the scent creating a comforting cohesion that brings it all together in harmony.

Mirage by Nose of Gatsby

According to Nose of Gatsby, Mirage is “like a shadow in the desert, a fire torch raised by humans, and the first code carved by humankind” and all I can say about that description is that I absolutely agree. Notes of suede, papyrus, saffron, and frankincense pull this ancient desert experience together. Mirage is one of those fragrances that takes you places and as I smell Mirage, I’m right there in the desert under the hot sun having a mirage that I’m at home writing about this scent. Luckily this is real, because I love it. Use code: ISEEMIRAGE for 10% off. Expires 02/08/25

Gay Oppa by KST SCENT

From the new fragrance house, KST SCENT which is inspired by memories and moments from Korea, Gay Oppa shines! Opening with a citrusy yuzu and bright green apple, it bursts with energy and excitement, showcasing a scent that exudes charisma. As it dries down, sweet sensual notes begin to peek through. But even as it begins to settle with that warm sweetness, the lively notes in the opening continue to shine through. Gay Oppa is a scent that exudes the coolest person in the room, all eyes on them, and let’s celebrate because there’s always something worth celebrating.

Precious Treasure by Zaharoff

Anyone who has been paying attention to my love for Zaharoff knows that Signature Tabac has been my favorite scent from the house since its release. As each new release came out, Signature Tabac still held my heart as my favorite. Precious Treasure has finally unseated Signature Tabac. Highlighted by the rich, woody Bushman candle. This is next level. Fitting since it is part of the new privé Basileus Collection. The Bushman candle is layered with cardamom, Blonde cedar, Ebony wood, and sandalwood to make a truly luxurious scent. There’s a new king at Zaharoff and its name is Precious Treasure.

Nuit d’Oranger by Chloé

Part of the Atelier de Fleurs collection, Nuit d’Oranger is a sweet and spicy inviting scent with vanilla and petitgrain that’s rounded out with floral notes of neroli and orange blossom. These notes blend together effortlessly creating a combination of scents that will suit nights well but will play magically on nights too.

Cosmic Serpent by d.grayi

Cosmic Serpent opens with a magnificently realistic blueberry. It’s the most realistic blueberry I’ve ever smelled. Beyond that I get a hot steamy tea. There’s a lot of notes here. Together they’re doing wonderfully glorious things, but it’s that airy, steamy blueberry that has me dreaming.

Perfect Elixir by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacob’s Perfect has had a perfect record of scents in its franchise since the debut. Elixir is no different and this is the best edition of the line since the fantastic original. Purple Rhubarb with honey nectar open this scent and I want to smell this forever. Then golden amber woods embraced by orange blossom float in and enhance the experience even more. Finally, vanilla bean extract and patchouli provide the base. I’m in heaven.

Nosferatu by Xyrena

Nosferatu is perhaps one of the original inspirations for Gothic horror in film. In the wake of Robert Eggers’ remake, there has naturally been renewed interest in the iconic original. With that comes, Nosferatu the fragrance, one of Xyrena’s newest releases to their Cinematic Scent Archive collection. Dried wildflowers, mineralic stone, Virginia cedar, plum, and sandalwood come together to perfectly capture the scent imagery of cold Gothic castles, cobblestone, and a vampire’s coffin with a touch of sophistication. Perfumer Kilian Wells has once again expertly transformed film to fragrance.

Bad Boy Sparkling Ice by Carolina Herrera

The iconic original Bad Boy returns again this year, housed in a limited edition “Sparkling Ice” white bottle. Sometimes a wardrobe upgrade means updating the appearance of the fragrance shelf. Bad Boy’s modern woody aromatic scent is one of the best selling fragrances in Carolina Herrera’s history. The white bottle pops and I love seeing this “Bad Boy” shining like an electrified bolt of lightning on my shelf.
