Rabanne’s 1 Million franchise has consistently done something surprising with each fragrance release. Rather than typical sequels that build off of its predecessor’s story, 1 Million consistently challenged expectations and took each fragrance into a boldly unique direction. More of an anthology series rather than a typical sequel, each release explored new ideas. Considering the iconic 1 Million inspired so many style copycats it practically created a new genre in fragrance, it only makes sense that the Million franchise dares to be different with each release.
Add to that the return of the legendary perfumer behind the original Million, Christophe Raynaud, and we’re bound to be in for a treat. To say Million Gold challenges expectations is an understatement. Whereas previous iterations went for attention grabbing excitement, Million Gold approaches from a different perspective. Million Gold seductively charms with smooth sensuality.
Notes of mandarin, cedar, and creamy sandalwood blend into an effortlessly sexy scent fitting for a man who exudes class. What I find to be most interesting about this scent is how at first sniff it smells like a woody spicy scent, but with time the notes blend in such a way that it blooms into a gorgeous floral violet. Like the Millions of the past, Million Gold dares to be different. While some may be surprised by the unique direction Million Gold takes, I personally welcome this exploration of violet that delights the senses. It’s the most wearable and versatile in the line, enhanced by its smooth sensuality.
