Last year’s release of Acqua di Gio Profondo, dove off the island tropical paradise of the original deep into the ocean. I believed it was the natural evolution of such an amazing fragrance franchise and was interested to see where they would take the series. I’m excited to see with the 2021 sequel, Profondo Lights, Giorgio Armani is continuing to explore to the ocean but perhaps from a new world perspective. While Profondo was clearly an exploration of the sea, a year spent mostly inside has Profondo Lights smelling more like it steps out of the ocean.
Profondo Lights is smoother and brighter than its predecessor, lending itself to the lights in its name. The salty, blue oceanic notes are still star of the scent, but the sharp, bright citrus notes remind me of a starry night sky or distant city lights. In the sense, this sequel leaves the ocean and takes a moonlit stroll right off the coast of the beach.
If you’re a fan of the Acqua di Gio franchise, you’re going to love this scent. The original is in the Pinappos Fragrance Hall of Fame for good reason. To this day, it’s still one of the most popular scents to wear. Profondo Lights makes for a good alternative when I crave the original DNA, but want a scent more fitting for a summer night.
